General Role Overview: The R&D Product Development Manager leads the development and enhancement of new and existing products, primarily in the beverage sector (e.g., juice concentrates, flavor bases). This role involves overseeing formulation, testing, costing, and customer alignment while managing a team of chemists and lab technicians. The manager ensures all products meet quality and safety standards and collaborates cross-functionally with internal departments and external clients.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Product Development Leadership:
  2. Manage all product development projects.
  3. Independently develop new or improved products based on customer or internal requirements.
  4. Evaluate feasibility based on production capabilities and resources.
  5. Team Management:
  6. Supervise and support R&D chemists and lab technicians.
  7. Provide guidance, direction, and mentorship.
  8. Technical & Customer Collaboration:
  9. Communicate with customer technical teams to understand and meet product requirements.
  10. Provide on-site support during first-time productions and troubleshooting.
  11. Documentation & Compliance:
  12. Review and approve master formulas, compounding instructions, and product specifications.
  13. Ensure compliance with SQF (Safe Quality Food) standards.
  14. Costing & Pricing:
  15. Perform cost analysis and recommend selling prices for developed products.
  16. Cross-Functional Coordination:
  17. Maintain strong relationships with Quality Control, Analytical, Production, and other departments.

  2. Bachelor’s degree in Food Science Technology, Nutrition, or a related field.
  3. Experience:
  4. Minimum 4 years in a supervisory or managerial role, with relevant training.
  5. Skills & Requirements:
  6. Strong sensory acuity (taste/aroma).
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and algebra-level math.
  8. Effective English communication skills (written and verbal).
  9. Flexibility to report to any company facility, with primary location in San Fernando.
